It is a great privilege to invite you to the Downpour meetings to be held in July with Evangelist Shyju Mathew from Bangalore, India. I would encourage you to plan to attend. When we met him last summer on his first trip here we were profoundly blessed... and we were delighted that "he got Toronto"... realizing the Lord's unique plans for the multi-cultural GTA as the Lord's plan for endtime harvest... WHAT IS THE ‘THE DOWNPOUR’?Joel 2:23, 24 reads, 'Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God; For He has given you the former rain faithfully, And He will cause the rain to come down for you – The former rain, And the latter rain in the first moth. The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.' The Downpour is an event that envisions an exceptional outpouring of the mighty rain of the Holy Spirit in the city if Toronto. During the summer of 2009, nearly 23 churches and ministries came together to hold several conferences and miracle crusades with the sole purpose of sparking this revival in the city. A young Evangelist from India, Shyju Mathew, was invited to come and speak at these events. As the services progressed, scored were saved, healed, delivered and young people by the hundreds were energized by the Holy Spirit. It was like a modern day out pouring from the Book of Acts. Many of those who were touched by the power of God, came forward and suggested that these meetings should be continued. The Downpour movement was hence initialized and organized so that churches all across the GTA may come together for this great revival. WHO IS SHYJU MATHEW? At a very early age, Shyju developed an intense hunger for the Lord. At an age when children his age were outside playing, young Shyju spent his time at home worshipping and seeking God’s face in solitude. When he was just 7 years old, Shyju began to see the mysteries of the Kingdom unfold through visions. The humble beginning of Shyju Mathew Ministries can be traced back to when Shyju was only 8 years old. One Sunday morning, a day chosen by God, the appointed pastor for a small prayer meeting failed to show up. Shyju was sarcastically asked to preach at this gathering, even though he was just an 8 year old child! Since then, God has opened many doors for this young and dynamic evangelist to lead people to Christ. When Shyju Mathew was 11, he went to Kerala city for his very first meeting outside Bangalore. The pastor who took him there had to return early, but as a sign of divine appointment, subsequent meetings continued to be arranged in Kerala for an entire month. Preaching at these meetings in Kerala without the senior pastor by his side was a great blessing and encouragement for Shyju to move deeper into ministry. God honored his meetings in Kerala with great signs and wonders. Although he would have liked to stay back longer and minister to the people of Kerala, Shyju had to return to Bangalore since his school vacations were over. As Shyju entered his teens, the burden for leading the lost to Christ increased. Shyju preached for the first time in an open air mass meeting at the age of twelve. Before the age of 19, Shyju had already traveled and ministered at conferences in five different nations. Shyju is now 24 years old and continues to demonstrate God’s word through the manifest presence of the Holy Spirit in his meetings. He is widely regarded as a prophet of the revival age and has a unique gift to stir up a new love for God in the hearts of those who attend his conferences.
