"Naphtali is abounding with the favour of the Lord The people of the Lord are at long last camped in proximity of the promise. A new generation has arrived at the point of "entering in". The intention of the Lord, delayed for forty years by the decision of unbelief of others, is now about to be realized. As the whole camp is gathered in preparation for conquest and inheritance, Moses pronounces blessing upon each tribe. Deuteronomy 33 is much more than a "pep rally" to ready them for battle. Rather, it is teeming with the energy that is released when the clear revelation of what God thinks and will manifest is declared. This chapter which addresses each tribe is not just random encouragement. These verses are divine disclosures which God intends to back up with divine action! The declaration of favour is given to three groups: Joseph (whose offspring will inherit a choice portion), Naphtali and Asher. "Favour" is not just a compliment or a "well-wishing". Rather, favour is understood as an essential dynamic necessary to fulfill a divine calling and assignment. (I remember how my own spirit leaped the first time I heard: "You'll need favour for the assignment the Lord is about to give you!") Favour is further explained in Vine's dictionary, (p. 79) as "the position one enjoys before a superior who is favourably disposed toward him." You can wander in the wilderness doubting God but you cannot enter into your promised inheritance fearing that He is doubting you! This is your time to draw near and hear afresh the Lord's pronouncement of favour over you. The name, Naphtali means "wrestling". Now, that zone or stretch of "wrestling" comes to an end. All energy must now be focused against the foe-ready for conquest. Naphtali (and each of us) can now move forward assured of divine favour... not just tiny droplets which squeeze out of the reluctant hand of God. No! We move forward abounding in favour and abundant in blessing! This is more than just confidence. The pronouncement of favour brings divine empowerment. This is His divine guarantee granted to His called ones! Favour is God's decision regarding you! This is the same vocabulary used by the Lord Jesus as He spoke over His called ones: "It is the Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." (Luke 12:32) Divine favour now fuels you as you stand in proximity of your promise. With rejoicing, Rev. Peggy I. Kennedy
