"My love won't walk away from you, Now, that's a very powerful promise! That word will hold great weight at any time and is most welcome for any season... but it is especially meaningful for right now! On the natural calendar we are entering a new season. On the Jewish calendar it's the new year. It's a fitting time to "check the covenant" and review the warranty of our relationship with Him! These words present a powerful picture of the Lord's unfailing love and His unwavering commitment to us: "My love won't walk away from you"! When you put those words back into the context of Isaiah 54 plus do a bit of digging into the original language, the security and pledge of the promise really intensifies! The chapter opens with a declaration of spiritual productivity that trumps all previous barrenness! That declaration requires a new dimension... an enlargement of the structure... a spreading out... a strengthening of the expansion... a prophetic perspective... and a "heart-set" to contain and sustain the new: "Don't hold back!" Our precious Lord of this new level is well aware of how our knees can shake as we seek to gain our footing in this expanded territory. He does not leave us quivering with a hundred questions of "what if?" or "will it really be?" The statement of divine promise in verse 10 which follows the prophetic directive of expansion and increase leaves no doubt about the trustworthiness of our God! The pictures in that verse are vivid! The most sturdy structures on the landscape (mountains and hills) are actually quite unlikely to begin to depart or be removed. The original language is to "recede by contact or withdraw" (Strong's, 4185) and " waver, slip, shake, or fall" (Strong's, 4131). Those were the very things we were secretly fearing and even dreading. How gracious of the Lord to intercept those fears with His promise of unfailing love! However, even if the unpredicted shaking and removing of mountains and hills were to happen (and in the natural, that would surely bring down the expanded structure we've just set in place!), His unfailing love undergirds our enlarged tent! All our obedience and investment in His prophetic directive and corresponding expectation of the fruit of enlargement is actually "under warranty"! His covenant commitment summed up in the word "kindness" is comprehensive! This "kindness" is the Hebrew word: "hesed" (Strong's 2617). A look into the Vine's dictionary of Old Testament Words (p. 142 and 143) will bring a shout of joy and a sigh of relief. This unique word of covenant never is just legal responsibility or a policy with limited coverage! There is the three-strand cord of "strength, steadfastness and love" promised us... and that cord will hold the weight of the enlarged tent! He has called us into a relationship in which His "kindness" gives the strength needed. His steadfastness is the undergirding. And His love is the divine kind that won't walk away from us! That's a warranty that will stand the test and sustain us in the new season of expansion! Go ahead: "enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide; do so with confident expectation and abandonment: Do not hold back!" His love won't walk away from you!
