The scene is charged with emotion! Joseph, now as prime minister of Egypt and "deliverer of nations", is face to face with his family. He is eye-ball to eye-ball with his brothers who betrayed him. But, Joseph is also in the presence of his brother, Benjamin, and emotions explode within him! The rather archaic wording of the version above says "his bowels did yearn". We need some assistance with understanding that phrase. Other versions use "deeply moved" or "his heart yearned deeply". A "dig" into the original language puts us within earshot of what the Spirit intended by those words. The word "bowels" means "the womb" (Strongs, 7358) and "yearn" to be "deeply affected with passion" (Strongs, 3648). An empassioned desire is arising within Joseph with the strong, strong emotion he rightly feels toward his younger brother.

However, as the Spirit began to speak about "yearning", I realized He was also talking to me! Something is being stirred from a deep, deep place within. Desires perhaps long buried are now being activated by the Spirit...not for the purpose of grieving or agony but this deep stirring within the "womb" is for birthing! Don't miss the context of the vivid story of Joseph. For, this emotion now expressed by Joseph, could have been over-ridden by other choices! He could have become driven with deep anger toward the other brothers in the room! The record could have read that Joseph seethed with resentment. Muted by memories of misery in the pit and the prison, his yearnings could now erupt in revenge. He is now in a superior position to enforce any and all punishment upon his persecutors. But, the choice Joseph makes is available to us:out of the array of emotions, he chooses to release yearnings long buried that speak of his own identity and destiny. With his heart, he simply embraces Benjamin with love and he denies himself all the other options!

Right now the Spirit of the Lord is stirring yearnings...deep, deep yearnings...and even delayed desires! These may have been layered over by the actions of others. They may have become muted by memories of misery from our own pit or prison or dulled by delay. But, the time has arrived! The Spirit Himself is stirring these desires. Yearnings long hidden are now arising from your womb! Don't deny the activity and the intention of the Spirit. Deny yourself instead all other choices, and allow the desires to stir and manifest! After all, as with Joseph, the Lord is the One who initiated those desires in a previous season ...He's the One who gave you the desires of your heart! And, in His faithfulness to thwart all the failures of flesh and trump all delay, you have arrived into His hour of manifest desires! He's birthing what you've carried deep within! Allow the stirrings; embrace the yearnings.
