There has been a resurrection in Grand Cache, Alberta! This picture, taken at the entrance to the town about 5 hours drive northwest of Edmonton introduces us to the miracle which has happened there! It is an amazing testimony to the Lord's ability to transform the economic state of an entire town... and a testimony to a church and army of intercessors who simply would not take "no" for an answer!

As the town entered the new millennium, it seemed like the "Cache" was anything but full! It was nearly empty!!!

The local mine, the main industry in town and major employer, had closed down! The church was holding weekly group farewell services for members who were leaving to relocate in order to find work. Houses could be bought for just a 'song'... and that song would have been a sad, sad song!

But, the pastor and believing remnant simply would not cease to call out to the Lord. They took action to intercede... to do prophetic acts as directed by the Spirit... to fast and pray... to listen to get the mind of the Lord. Most of all, the church drew in close to the Lord to trust Him that somehow His plan for their community would not be missed!

In the midst of this, the town attempted to start an alternative economy by instituting an annual marathon. Missing it completely, they named it: Death Run! A skull and cross-bones became part of the logo for this desperate scheme. As we arrived into town on a cold night in March in 2001, the poster for the race clashed violently with my spirit!!! I "prophesied" to the local hotel attendant: "If you want to see this town turned around, you need to change the name from 'Death Race' to 'Resurrection Run'."

On that ministry visit and on return visits we watched the Lord faithfully sustain His people... He undergirded their expectation lest they give their town over to death just as was being advertised!

Now, the 'cache' in Grand Cache is once more full and overflowing! The mine is open again! Those same houses which could have been bought for a song are available with a lot more zero's in the asking price!!! The Church there has been used of the Lord to turn the entire situation around... from death to life... from empty to full... from hopeless to a vibrant mountain community again! Our role was very small... but our shout of celebration alongside this persistent band of believers is loud! Great is their God! They lifted their desperate "eyes" much higher than the hills... but directly to the One who heard and answered prayer! (Psalm 121) Our visit there this past month reminds us again of how the Church in Canada is being called to lead... even in these drastic economic times!

The Lord is not finished in Grand Cache! "Everything that God has done is because of what God is going to do!"
